A group of professionals were brought together due to a shared goal-a desire to find a facility in the Knoxville area that would provide competent childcare in an environment that would enrich the quality of life and promote the development of their babies and young children. This group of individuals was generally well educated and desired to be employed on a full time basis, but also wanted to ensure that their children were cared for properly. They were willing to pay for the quality of service they desired and needed, but were unable to find this level of service. They set about, therefore, to establish a facility that could provide these services.

From the beginning, the founders determined that they not only wanted to meet their own needs, but that they wanted to make quality service available to children from all cross-sections of the community. They incorporated as a private, non-profit corporation and setup a Board of Directors to oversee operations. They sought and received Title XX funding through which services could be made available to very low income families and to children whose home have been found to be too stressful. The United Way of Greater Knoxville provided part of the 25% local match of these Title XX funds.
